 Tocadisco // Toca45
Some people just don`t mix with the in-crowd. These, let us call them outsiders, prefer paving their own path to Easy Street. Often just loners with an unique vision, simply set to make difference in a somewhat unconventional way. Of course this “detour” might cause a slight delay, but nonconformists are usually not in a great hurry to get anywhere special. Their sole purpose is to get the job done exactly in the manner they intended to. Maybe this is one of the reasons why Tocadisco chose to live in Cologne, Germany. Well-known for its underground minimal sound, yet far from being the axis of modern day contemporary culture. Perfect for an artist to silently work in solitude, not facing the daily distractions of the overwhelming opulence of a boom town such as New York, London, Madrid.

Here near the Rhine river Roman B. started his prosperous musical career at a very young age. Based on the immediate success in the closer region, Tocadisco chose to turn his passion into his profession. Learning by doing is certainly this mans motto. Within an extremely short period of time the studio wizard taught himself how to record and produce tracks. No teachers, no musical education and no annoying guidelines. Soon after the prodigy already released his first single “Nobody Likes The Records That I Play” on Superstar Records. This more than unusual club-hit was his breakthrough anthem. A worldwide tour ensued, which led to an even more auspicious year 2005. His remix for the Mylo 12 inch “In Your Arms” became one of the most played records during the summer of 2005.

From then on his phone didn`t stop ringing, stupendous remixes for various artists succeeded. Axwell & Ingrosso, the Egg, A`Studio, ATB, Hi-Track, Philippe B. and many many more. But that didn`t keep this workaholic from banging out another killer track. “You`re No Good For Me” was another step for yet bigger things to come. Tocadisco`s wide musical taste somehow had to be expressed through other outputs.

Logically AC/OT was born, his underground pseudonym. During 2005 he released 3 four-track EP`s containing remixes by John Dahlbäck and Martinez. It was time for another single, “Music Loud/Crazy Cursor” hit the air-waves. Simultaneously laboring on red hot remixes for New Order, Deep Dish, Pet Shop Boys, Mylo, Linus Love, Sono, Etienne Daho (in cooperation with Fishersponner), Flatpack, Boosta, Funkwerkstatt, M.A.N.D.Y. vs. Booka Shade, Enigma, Sharam from Deep Dish, Moby and the list goes on and on! Numerous outputs dominated the club scene globally, but Tocadisco`s the Egg rework of “Walking Away” has to be considered as one of the biggest releases of that year. MIXMAG called it the “biggest Dance Single of 2006”.

David Guetta even used the instrumental version of the remix for an official bootleg version of his first hit “Love Don`t Let Me Go”. Television even picked up on the track, Citroen used the remix for its worldwide car add. But everybody is probably wondering by now: When will this man release his first album?! Well, let me tell you, soon! He has just finished putting the final touches on his full-length LP. “Solo” will finally be available by January 2008. The first single “Better Begin” will showcase the Sono vocalist Lennart A. Salomon. That not being enough, Tocadisco launched a new underground series: The Black Series”, expect numerous outputs under this anonym in your local record store. Selfevidently he is also still more than busy remixing artists such as Tiga, Bob Sinclar, Tommie Sunshine, Amo & Navas, Axwell, DY10, Mighty Dub Katz (Fatboy Slim) and Culcha Candela. Tocadisco also helped out David Guetta on his new album, co-producing the piece “Tomorrow Can Wait” with him.

Does this man ever take a break? I guess not, but living in Cologne, this hack has got all the time in the world to work himself to the top of the mountain. This is just the beginning.

 John Dahlbäck // Mutants
John Dahlbäck is further testament to the theory that when it comes to overly talented musical homelands, there could indeed be something in Sweden’s water. Born in 1985 in a small village near Stockholm, he landed his first record deal aged just 15 while most of his peers were just discovering clubs. Just a few years later he was already the proud owner of a worldwide respected label, had a string of well-known productions to his name and a reputation for quietly turning out some of the best house melodies you could hope to hear.

With a family background boasting more music than the Von Trapps it’s no surprise he was instantly hooked – his mum sings in a jazz band, his dad drummed in a prog rock band, and various aunts and uncles played piano, guitar and more, so he was hardly stuck for inspiration or opinions to help him get started. Learning the basics on his dad’s Atari computer he soon established his own style, and his second demo, a jazz-influenced, deep house number called Night Flash, earned him a record deal with Route 33.

After five successful years running his Pickadoll label, John started his own label "Mutants", “I had a real vision about the label,” says John Dahlbäck. “I can hear within a couple of seconds whether a track will fit, and I love doing this kind of organised work – sending out promos and looking for licenses – otherwise I’m just a slave to the studio!”

Although primarily an outlet for John's more experimental tracks from the studio, about 20% of Mutants' output is made up of other artists signed by John. "I like to combine sounds and styles and I still want that emotional twist, but I love the playful and sometimes experimental vibe of house."

His last album called “Winners And Fools” came out in September 2008, and described by John as “the one I’m most proud of. I’ve done a lot in the past and there have been some amazing moments. When the single “Blink” started to get big in France and I was making the video it was a huge moment, but every time I do a track now I feel I’m improving. For John Dahlbäck, his agenda for making and playing music is simple. “I’m quite calm when I DJ, I don’t want to be ‘showy’ - I love to play for dancing people, to really see them loving the tunes. And I love to make the tunes that get them dancing…”

Now, in 2011, John Dahlbäck has several songs on Toolroom, Spinnin’, Defected, Versuz, Big Beat/Atlantic NEWS, Universal GAS, Universal Nordic, Ministry Of Sound Australia and One Love/Sony Australia. His latest single featuring Erik Hassle "One Last Ride" (with remixes by Tommy Trash & Felix Cartal among others) has already been added to National Radio in Sweden and played by the Swedish House Mafia on their Pete Tong Radio1 show.

This year he has also remixed Lady Gaga, Nicole Featuring 50 Cent, Skylar Gray, David Morales and Sneaky Soundsystem among others.

Already for 2012 John will be releasing a Mix Cd for Tool Room Records in January with several other releases coming out every month.

 Arty // Anjunabeats
On July 4th, 2011, Arty released his massive, big-room house anthem “Around the World" on Anjunabeats following unprecedented support across the board from Axwell, Chuckie, Hardwell, Tiesto, Robbie Rivera, Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Gareth Emery and an extended list of the biggest names in electronic music of the moment on the biggest events of the year such as the Swedish House Mafia’s performance on the main stage of the record-breaking Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas in June 2011. Artem Stolyarov has himself already been around the world and back having played events across the globe from the most prestigious clubs to some of the biggest festivals including Global Gathering, Gatecrasher and ASOT 500 in Den Bosch.

In autumn 2010 Arty made his debut in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll as #78 in the world while being listed by many peers in the same centurion as the breakthrough artist of the year, which was subsequently followed by nomination for Best Breakthrough DJ at the 2011 IDMA awards. As Arty said in an interview in summer 2010, “I think that your goals must be difficult to achieve; reaching such goals is the most exciting thing that encourages me to develop as an artist”, and with so much achieved so far in his fledgling career with over 30 releases on labels from Armada to Black Hole, topping Beatport charts and being supported on countless radio shows by other top artists this hard-working attitude indicates only more to come.

In 2011 alone some of his productions such as the collaboration “Rebound” with Mat Zo have been among the most played tracks around and to add to his already-impressive remixology resumé he has been handpicked for duties on some high-profile release packages to be announced soon. Confirmed for Audiotistic Festival in LA and Electric Zoo Festival in New York as debuts in each city, the 21-year old Russian native continues relentlessly moving forward setting the bar for what constitutes a rookie year in every possible area of his career.
